LapBand Procedure

The Lap-Band Procedure involves the placement of an inflatable band around the upper section of the stomach to make a small gastric pouch. The band is generally filled with saline and may be adjusted as necessary. A person may want to have it adjusted to allow more food to slowly flow into the rest of the stomach area underneath the band. The area of this opening has the ability to be adjusted smaller or larger simply from limiting the quantity of saline inserted.
This procedure is done laparoscopically. The FDA pproved it in 2001 although it has been going well in Europe, Mexio and Australia ten years before, so the United States will have almost a decade of experience.
